Brow Waxing 101: What to Expect and How to Prep

Brow waxing is one of those treatments that sounds simple but makes a genuinely big difference to how put-together your whole face looks. Here's how to prep for your appointment and what to expect.

What happens during a brow wax?

Warm wax is applied to unwanted hair around your natural brow shape, then removed to lift the hair from the root. Your technician will shape as they go, working with your natural brow line rather than forcing a shape that doesn't suit your face.

How to prepare

Let your brows grow out for at least 2 weeks before your appointment if you've been plucking — your technician needs enough hair to see the natural shape and work with it properly. Avoid sun exposure, retinol, and exfoliating acids on the brow area for 48 hours beforehand, as they make the skin more sensitive to waxing.

Does it hurt?

There's a quick pull sensation, but it's over in seconds per section and most clients find it very manageable — nowhere near as intense as people expect.

Aftercare

Avoid makeup, sun exposure, and hot water on the area for 24 hours. Mild redness is completely normal and settles within an hour or two.
